 DESCRIPTION:
Lazio and ROME famous for their breathtaking history, Vatican City and football. „Mare di Roma“ is the locality where Romans come to enjoy the sea. It covers shores spreading from Lido di Ostia to Nettuno, altogether 70 km in length.
Lazio, region between Apennines and Tyrrhenian Sea, is a land with rich history, beautiful nature and delicious cuisine. Welcome! The capital city of both the region and the whole Italy is Rome (Roma) famous for its colorful history, Vatican City and nevertheless also football. Mare di Roma – the area where Romans come to enjoy the sea covers altogether 71km of shore spreading from Lido di Ostia to Nettuno.

Anzio Sea-side resort about 50km south from Rome. It is famous not only for the remnants of Nero’s residence - one of the cruelest roman Caesars – but also its long sandy beaches decorated here-and-there with low flat rocks. While staying in Anzio, don’t miss the chance to visit a renowned restaurant with fish specialties “Ristorante da Romolo al Porto”. Maybe you will be lucky to be served the most wonderful sea food that you have ever tasted prepared by the owner – Mr Walter, the chef – who is renowned for his mastery not only in Italy. We encourage you to let yourselves be advised by this master of his art.

Terracina is a seaside resort situated in the southern part of Lazio region, about 100km from Roma and 120km from Naples (Napoli). Its beautiful beaches are long and sandy. Terracina is perfect for a family holiday but also history-seekers thanks to its excellent position between Rome and Naples.

Tips for trips: most of all Rome – the capital of Italy, cradle of European civilization with its architecture, art and history breathing on every spot of this city of cities. To experience the contrast, taste the night life of this city. We encourage you to stay here for the minimum of 3 days, otherwise you just won’t be able to make the most of it. Not to leave it out, don’t forget to have a look at Vatican City – the extrarich-extrasmall state in Rome, the residence of the Pope...

Wonderful land, its characteristic relief with mountains sloping to the azure sea. It is a good setting for all kinds of tourism from the classical summer one – holidaymaking by the sea, through sightseeing tours with history and town architecture being its program, to agrotourism.

Lazio belongs to the medium-size regions when compared to the other 19 regions of Italy, but to say about the number of people living here, it is the third after Campania and Lombardy. People living in this region are typical descendants of the old Romans. They live from agriculture, fishery, attractive gastronomy and of course tourism industry.

What Lazio and Italy have in common is Rome, Roma in Italian, the Capital of both, the most visited city of Italy. The coast from Nettuno to Lido di Ostia serve a holiday at the sea for both domestic and foreign tourists.

While strolling down the center of Rome one doesn’t know what to admire first. Every single building is a piece of art – as if built all by artists. Each one is worth notice. So after an hour of pilgrimage you realize, that you are only two streets further from the place from which you started for another of the hundreds of sights spotted on your map...

...so you put aside your camera and brisk up your pace so that you can make it. After a while you reach the first „big“ sight, for example the Spanish stairs. Now you take out your camera again and join the snapping crowd. You find an accommodation somewhere in the centre for at least two or three nights, because it is just impossible to visit all the sights in a time shorter than this.

Those less patient might decide to see all of the main sights of Rome from a sightseeing bus. For the price of one ticket on a special bus they ride the circuit of the most significant monuments. Yes, you can see the main sights of Rome in one day in this way, but it goes on the account of quality. We would recommend a compromise – step out of the bus at every sight, explore it a little, then take the next bus and move to the following stop. And continue as long as you have some energy...

The queerest of all the theatres ever built, but never finished, lasts till today, anyway. Maybe to remind of what people are capable of doing – in the negative way. Colosseum is situated in the centre of Rome on the spot next to many historical monuments of that period.

Not a long time ago the admission to the ruins was free. But as the expenses to keep the ruins in good condition grew an entry fee to Coliseum was introduced. So after queuing for 20 to 30 minutes, detection and security control, you get to the cash desk and get a ticket for € 11.00 (price valid in 2007).

The tour of colossal Colosseum is really a strong experience, the more if you listen to a qualified local tour guide. What a pride for an actor to play in a world known theater. But in this no one probably thought o fit this way...

Emperor could keep his eye on the building process from his house built on a hill nearby. Emperor’s residence called Palatino survived on an extensive area only in ruin-form. Once upon a time it was here that Romulus plough the first furrow and the first square-shaped town was built. The visitors with voucher to Colosseum can access also Palarino. They can stroll the path through a nice park of pine trees and ruins ending om the highest place of the remnants that serves as a lookout at Coloseum and Foro Romano. That is where these pictures come from.

Foro Romano, an area in the centre of Rome filled with archaeological discoveries, is surrounded by Coliseum, Palatino and Campidoglio. The place is always filled with tourists who come to admire „Tempio di Antonio e Faustina“ (The Temple of Antonio and Faustina) that ceasar Antonius Pius had built in year 141 after his beloved wife Faustina died. The temple was rebuilt after his death and served as a Christian church.

Another proof of the magnificence of Roman architecture is The Basilica of Massenzi. It was finished in the 4th century and from the distance you can see it as three big arcs.

The citizens of Rome, the capital of both Lazio and Italy, are nowadays people of all race, ethnic and culture, very colorful. Still you can meet some „pure Romans“. They are people of smaller stature, light chocolate skin, black hair and characteristic face lines, simply typical Romans.

Their metropolis becomes a step home for tourists for the whole year almost – there is few times more tourists than the citizens. The city is stuffed with tourists mostly in spring and autumn when the climate conditions are most pleasant for sightseeing tourism. Of course, the visitors of Vatican come here all year long.

The ministate and its head, the Pope, have a great influence in today’s civilized world. The church state of Vatican is probably of the most visited places in the world. There is much to admire besides the church-connected stuff / much arts and architecture. We recommend leaving one day extra for a visit of this place. First, find out on which day certain sights that you are willing to see are open and available. On the day planned get up early in the morning and step to a never-ending queue hoping to proceed and see the desired monument.

Romans prefer sea in the hottest months of the year. They leave for the shore distant only few tens of kilometers in crowds. Here they relax and cool themselves on perfectly equipped and served beaches. Roman beaches are in fact a 70km long strip of coast with perfect beach service and other utilities.
