Transport

  • Papua New Guinea has a very ragged terrain and therefore the easiest way to get around is by air
  • Air Niugini operates domestic flights connecting Port Moresby to the provinces
  • more remote parts of the country are serviced with few smaller airlines
  • a good network of roads connects the Northern Zone and the Highlands region, it is possible to rent a car or hire a driver, take a taxi in larger towns or use local buses. Boat and ferry rental is available as well.
  • the capital, Port Moresby is not connected with the northern zone by a road as the terrains are very rough

Entry requirements

  • 60-day tourist visas are available on arrival in Port Moresby with a fee of K100; obtaining visa before arrival costst slightly less K75
  • travel documents, sufficient funds for the stay and confirmed outbound airline ticket for a date prior to visa expiry
  • a departure fee of K30 is payable by all departing international passengers at the Duty Free Shop on level 1 of the international terminal in Port Moresby
