The island of Sardinia (Sardegna) “The Caribbean of the Mediterranean” is one of the “nicknames” for Sardinia, an island surrounded by gorgeous azure sea, unspoilt nature, beautiful sandy beaches and jagged shore. Sardinia is the second largest island of Italy and belongs to the first settled parts of Europe. The oldest archaeological excavations and monuments are dated to the year 1700 B.C. The remnants of Sardinian history are nuraghe – tower-like buildings of cone stones. The best way to travel to Sardinia is taking a ferry from Genoa, Livorno or Civitavecchia on the coast of Italy. The ferry transport to Sardinia takes about 8 – 10 hours. Tourists can use also airports in Cagliari, Olbia and Alghero.
Costa Rei is a beautiful region in the southeast of Sardinia surrounded by crystal clear Tyrrhenian Sea. This part of the island used to be called “Sarrabus” in the past and is remarkable for peculiar natural phenomena such as groups of big stones with astral look. The most famous of these are Piscina Rei and Pranu Mateddu. Costa Rei is a place to spend a peaceful, unspoilt summer holiday.
Santa Margherita di Pula is a sought after travel destination, 7 km far from a famous summer resort Pula. Hotels and apartment complexes are situated close to the beaches surrounded with greenery. Near Pula is a small promontory peninsula Capo di Pula, sought after mostly by archaeologists. A local 18-hole golf course Is Molas has become famous too, even international golf tournaments are organized here.
Porto Cervo is a famous summer holiday resort for millionaires on Costa Smeralda. You will find here boutiques, luxurious hotels and nightclubs, where you can meet even Naomi Campbell or Heidi Klum. We recommend visiting the islands of La Maddalena and Caprera accessible with regular ferry traffic from Palau.
